Materials like Xypex and Penetron are typically a liquid that is either brushed or sprayed on. These type of materials claim to form crystals within the pores and capillaries within the concrete in order to make the concrete more impervious to water/moisture. These xypex crystalline waterproofing materials use cementitious materials which are hard, brittle and offer no elongation/flexibility what so ever to seal joints & cracks. When/if even minor movement occurs, these cementitious materials rely on crystals to react with the presence of leaking water to continue the crystal formation in order to seal the leak.
The Sani-Tred system permanently adheres by the first coat’s penetration into the concrete then curing to become as tough as a tire inside the concrete. All joints, seams, cracks and holes are then patched/sealed using LRB/TAV mixture which molecularly welds to the underlying PermaFlex. Then a topcoat of PermaFlex rubber floor paint is applied, which molecularly welds to all of the underlying. This creates a permanently bonded, flexible, monolithic and waterproof seal throughout. Sani-Tred products do not only waterproof concrete. Sani-Tred products are the only materials that have been proven both ‘in the field’ and laboratory proven to seal out over 99% of radon. Sani-Tred products have 590% elongation/flexibility and molecularly weld to each other so there are no weak links from one application to another.
Below are photos of Xypex Patch’N Plug. Just a light tap and it shatters.
Below are photos of a similar size piece of Sani-Tred LRB/TAV mixture curled all the way around. It can be beat with a hammer, folded & smashed in a vice without any damage what so ever.
